What qualifications are needed to be a truck driver?
To become a truck driver, candidates must hold a category C driving licence and have at least one of the following qualifications:
- CAP Conducteur Routier Marchandises,
- Bac Pro Conducteur Transport Routier Marchandise
or a professional title:
- CTRMP – freight driver for straight carrier trucks
- CTRMV – freight driver for all types of vehicle.
An inexperienced driver who only holds a category C driving licence must follow a mandatory minimal initial training (FIMO) in order to earn the right to drive a heavy goods vehicle.
Furthermore, to maintain their competency levels, every 5 years drivers must undergo mandatory vocational training (FCO) to ensure that they maintain an up-to-date awareness of legislation and regulations and refresh their understanding of key professional know-how.
